Our variety creation began in 1947 as a collaboration between the breeding company Clause and cooperatives in Brittany wanting to create new potato varieties that were suited to local growing conditions. In 1984, the same partners created a company to promote their varieties and the potato plants they produced abroad. In 1989, the merger between research, production, and marketing activities gave rise to Germicopa.
Since joining the Florimond Desprez group in 2014, Germicopa has enjoyed privileged access to cutting-edge plant breeding technologies. Thanks to its French research station and international experimentation network, Germicopa selects the individuals that best meet its customers' expectations, based on agronomic, industrial, culinary, and environmental criteria.
Germicopa is also an expert in potato seed production, facilitating access to varietal innovation for its customers around the world. This global presence demonstrates Germicopa's ability to create potato varieties adapted to all growing conditions and markets.
Germicopa relies on a production network of 180 seed potato growers based in areas recognized for their superior sanitary quality, in Brittany and northern France. Their experience and Germicopa's expertise enable them to get the most out of the nearly 3,000 hectares of seed potatoes put into production each year.
